Telemonitoring of Elderly living in rural areas

Telemonitoring of Elderly living in rural areas (10SEC322021PR ) is a Regional Project funded through the INCITE Programme by Xunta de Galicia. The aim of the project is to develop a radio system that will allow elderly location and monitoring their vital parameters from a remote center. Several radio technologies will be considered to achive radio coverage in rural areas out of the service areas of current mobile phone networks.  Project was officially launched in 2010.

At the moment, a location application for mobile phones has been developed. An alarm is raised if the monitored person leaves a predetermined geographical area. This application also provides information about vital parameter of the monitored person (as heart rate), and fires an alarm in case it goes over or below ceirtain risk levels. Position and vital parameters can also be retrieved at any moment under demand.

To guarantee the mottored person privacy, data is stored in a data base with resticted access.

The same application is being developed for UHF/VHF radios. It is expected that this technology will exhibit a better coverage for rural areas, compared to GSM/UMTS technologies.
